PUBLICLY PRETTY

Yesterday, the administrative staff met with the 8 participants of 2 High 4 The
Price to critique our community outing to speak to the at-risk youth at Pathways.
We were told we looked too "free."  Honestly.  No joke.  We had on the stale green
uniforms that we have to wash, iron and wear for months and even years at a time;
standard prison foot wear that consists of Nike sneakers, or fake color Timberland
boots; hair styles that were serious work because we do not have the proper hair
care items we all use at home, or anything more current than a blow dryer and
curling iron, and the "excessive jewelry" that they spoke about was a religious
chain with medallion, per FBOP policy, a wedding band for some, and a pair of
small hoop earrings and commissary watch that are too big really for women, and
the ugliest thing I have ever seen.  Of course at home I wear Rolex for everyday
wear.  The explanation was that, "We do not want the kids to think we bought
these things for you," from the Camp Administrator.  All of the prison shows and
stories, including Orange is The New Black is all lies and misrepresentations- that
is NOT what a Camper looks like, and we do NOT wear orange jail uniforms.
We all agreed to "tone it down, and try to look more rough and like prisoners."
Well, look at the bright side.  The children were touched, listened, and asked
questions, and we CAN go out again, so its worth looking and dressing like a
bum ass indigent man for a few hours, instead of the proud women we are.
